Helpful DIY Slipcover Measurement Chart for Lawson Style Sofa or Chair

In a previous life I did custom home decor sewing for a living. One of the most difficult skills to learn was making slipcovers. Here I am sharing a measurement chart which will help you stay organized with measurements.

Slipcovers are not as fashionable as they once were, but they still have a place in the world of interior design.

  • Protect and extend the life of new furniture
  • Help your furniture pass through kids early years
  • Pet friendly way to protect upholstery fabric from cats and dogs.
  • Lower stress levels about housekeeping

Slipcovers can work on almost all types of furniture. On modern furniture, they can be made in such a way as to be hardly discernible from  stapled on furniture fabric. On more traditional styles, even the most well tailored slipcovers will look like slipcovers. But there is beauty and style in a well made slipcover.

So for those of you who are scratching your head as to how to start a slipcover, start here.

This one is for a the typical Lawson style sofa, with the rounded arm fronts. You can use this for an armchair as well.

The red lines indicate where to take the measurements.
