Cotton canvas duck cloth - the timeless fabric for slipcovers, featuring a slight texture. This versatile material is also a great material for curtains, roman blinds, light upholstery, tablecloths, and bedding items. This cotton is very high quality with a high thread count and long fibres so it will last longer than many budget cottons.

Cotton is lovely fabric to use in your home. It feels comfy and softens over time. There is something a little luxurious about a natural fibre sofa or armchair.

But there are somethings to consider when choosing an all natural fibre for home décor. Keep in mind that it does need special care. Fading in direct sun can be an issue, so you need to line sunny window coverings and keep cotton furniture out of direct sunlight for long periods of time.

Lighter colours will not appear as faded.

Cotton is also easy to machine wash, but it may shrink, so a prewash is necessary. 

Cotton will not last as long as a synthetic. It wears by losing fibres and becoming thinner, until threadbare. However, a high quality cotton with long fibres will last much longer.

Natural fibres are absorbent so they can stain and bleach easily. It is not impossible to keep cotton upholstery stain free but you must treat spots promptly, with a pretested spot remover. If you do have a spot, keep it wet until you have time to address it and don't put stained items in the dryer until the spot is gone, because heat will set the stain.

Be mindful of new denim as the dye can rub off. If that happens, blot with alcohol.

If you love the look and feel of natural fibres but need fabric for a sunny room or heavy use furniture, consider a blend of polyester and linen or cotton. You will get the best of both worlds.
